The new Collections feature speeds up workflows between apps on MediaCentral, working like a clipboard to help collect material content for stories.

The Avid MediaCentral workflow platform’s tools for collaboration, cloud workflows and acquisition now have several new updates focussed on speed and efficiency.

Blueprint Builder is now available in MediaCentral | Collaborate, Avid’s newsroom-planning, content-sharing and project-tracking tool. Newsroom teams can use it to tailor their planning and approval workflows with specific attributes they require for their productions – allowing them to share and track content faster.

The Collections app is used to speed up workflows between apps on the MediaCentral platform, by working like a clipboard and making it simpler for users to quickly collect material content for their stories.

Improved Send To Playback capabilities now allow an incoming feed, even though not yet complete, to be transferred to FastServe | Playout servers. Teams no longer need to edit a feed in a timeline before transferring, shortening the time needed to move content to air. The FastServe | Playout servers are tuned for broadcast and designed to accelerate rundown-based news production. The servers’ Send to Playback engines are an important feature, and integrate with MediaCentral | Command for news rundown control.

Updates to the Rundown app inside MediaCentral | Cloud UX, the web-based front-end to Media Central, now give more detailed timing information, so that more work can be done directly in the MediaCentral | Cloud UX app. Journalists can work with both video and text without needing to switch applications.

The addition of granularity to user-rights management within MediaCentral | Acquire means that production teams controlling multiple ingest and playout devices, can now grant users specific permissions to record or view content. MediaCentral | Acquire is an app in MediaCentral | Cloud UX that gives instant access to recorded media – users can schedule media ingest in real time, record and preview incoming feeds, while adding metadata for searching.

Custom metadata – including customisation of mandatory metadata – can be added at the ingest stage as well, making the clips easier and faster to discover and use in stories.

Avid VP of Product Management for Video & Media Solutions, Dave Colantuoni, said the ongoing updates to MediaCentral platform are Avid’s way of keeping their Production Asset Management system in line with the changes occurring in broadcast. For instance, teams can use these tools to work together and plan, track and share content destined for multiple platforms. Meanwhile, the media and metadata are secured as they move through the different workflows.
