ENVY’s five London studios now run on Avid Media Composer | Enterprise editing software and NEXIS F-Series storage engines, supporting remote collaboration and scaling on demand.

Avid Media Composer ENVY

Opened in 2006, ENVY post-production studio now handles all post services, end-to-end, working on projects from documentary and factual, to scripted and shortform entertainment. Many of the projects seen in TV schedules every day, created by clients around the world, pass through ENVY’s facility.

ENVY has been a customer of Avid for about 10 years. Recently, they have signed a new multi-year subscription and support contract with media systems integrator Jigsaw24 Media that supplies its facilities with Avid’s updated video editing and storage capabilities. Jigsaw24 Managing Director Jason Cowan said, “During the time we’ve worked with ENVY, the industry has moved from analogue to digital workflows and from on-prem to hybrid-cloud and software-as-a-service solutions – and our role as a media systems integrator has evolved accordingly.”

The new deal supplies ENVY’s five London facilities with Avid’s updated Media Composer | Enterprise video editing software and Avid NEXIS F-Series storage engines. It will enable ENVY editing teams to collaborate from anywhere, and have the flexibility to scale their services as demand increases.

Avid Media Comp ENVY workflows

Built for post-production and broadcast teams, Media Composer | Enterprise focusses on efficiency by simplifying its operation, making it more user-centric and adding AI-driven tools to support automation. When combined with Avid NEXIS storage, remote editors can work and get the same workflow, user experience and access to media, as if they were editing in the studio.

This enterprise version of Media Composer includes all of the Media Composer | Ultimate functionality, for instance, customisable workspaces, shared bins and precision trimming. Editors can work with a live timeline and the new zero-relink proxy workflow in NEXIS | EDGE that adapts to latency and bandwidth variations. The AI tools PhraseFind AI and ScriptSync AI included help to find clips based on spoken dialogue.

Its high-res, HDR finishing tools support a full colour, 32-bit uncompressed pipeline and ACES workflow to maintain colour accuracy, end to end. Users can also roundtrip to a preferred grading application, without quality loss. Useful options include Symphony, allowing you to create IMF packages, including supplemental, for delivering to OTT streaming services, and Distributed Processing for offloading processor-intensive rendering, transcoding and export tasks to a hardware network.

But beyond the Ultimate features, Media Composer | Enterprise can be used to tailor the interface for individual roles in an organisation, so that it only includes the tools, functions and access that each person needs to perform their job. Limiting users’ access to certain media formats and codecs helps avoid mistakes, for instance, and locking down certain storage locations prevents unauthorised access.

Avid NEXIS is shared storage based on a flexible, scalable tiered environment, and can be deployed on-premises and in the cloud. Optimised to run on the Avid NEXIS | VFS (virtual file system) software to accelerate media production, teams of hundreds can use it to collaborate securely. www.avid.com
