Interra Systems’ BATON 9 series is the company’s highly-acclaimed, AI - ML-enabled automated QC platform, representing a major leap forward in performance — especially for media professionals working with UHD content and Dolby Atmos. The latest version of the BATON 9 series, which is continually developed to meet the evolving demands of Interra Systems’ customers, is a cut above competing solutions on the market, offering advanced video and audio quality checks, widespread format support, a high-performance media player, and more. Its game-changing features ensure a significantly better user experience for video service providers, broadcasters, and content owners while facilitating more efficient workflows.

Transforming QC and Compliance for Media Companies
Addressing the most demanding QC standards for quality and compliance, the BATON platform provides comprehensive quality and compliance checks for VOD content — in the cloud, on-premises, or as a hybrid solution — for linear and streaming workflows. It is deployed globally by broadcast, cable, telco, satellite, IPTV, over-the-top (OTT), post-production, and archiving companies working with file-based media, highlighting its reputation as a leading solution in the media industry.

The latest BATON 9 series, showcased at IBC2024, offers support for new checks, formats, and features, including:

Improved video quality checks: The BATON 9 series enhances the performance of video quality checks, especially for 4K content. It adds support for 16-bit black bar checks and includes improvements in detecting unwanted frames, field order, black bars, video dropouts, ghosting, combing artifacts, black frames, defective pixels, video signal and black levels, and shot transitions. New functionality also allows QR code validation against pre-uploaded images.

With these new enhancements, the BATON 9 series empowers media professionals to handle large volumes of content with ease, and efficiently manage their workflows, helping ensure that they consistently provide the best-quality audio-visual content to their end-users.

Advanced audio quality support: The BATON platform supports audio quality checks like Nielsen Watermarking and audio loudness. Additionally, it integrates Whisper AI for audio language identification, now supporting Czech, Danish, and Turkish languages. It includes new features for DC offset detection and minimum audio level reporting by channel, as well as enhancements in audio description, silence, and low-pass filter checks. Through these advanced features, media companies can deliver exceptional quality audio.
Enhanced format support: The solution now has added support for RDD59-1 specification, BW64 audio, and 24-bit LPCM audio. It also enables direct analysis of image sequences (such as TARGA, JPEG2000, DPX, CINEON, ARRIRAW, DNG) from cloud sources (S3 and GCS), improves JPEG2000 UHD decoding, and optimizes performance for TIFF and DPX files, along with refined error checking for MP4, MXF, and Program Streams.
Framework improvements: The most recent BATON 9 series boasts major framework updates, including NGINX server, Python 3.x, and Postgres. The migration from Python 2.x to Python 3.x results in a more responsive interface, increased scalability, and service and resource optimization, while Postgres RB simplifies database management. The BATON 9 series also offers performance enhancements for QC and analysis of UHD content, optimized IMF analysis, and improved reading and downloads from S3 cloud.

Enhanced media player: Updates to the BATON Media Player offer improved performance and usability, signalling the company’s commitment to evolving alongside the shifting media landscape. Allowing media professionals to play, inspect, and verify audio and video content, the platform now enables optimized playback of 4K content and further support for Dolby Atmos storage formats — such as AXS-R7, REDCODE audio, “dng” — and more options to review errors. As a result, media professionals can fine-tune their QC of media content, minimizing the risk of customer dissatisfaction when they experience the final, delivered version.

A Game Changer for Delivering Superior-Quality Video
BATON 9 Series deserves to be recognised by the Digital Media World Awards. It is an ever-evolving solution that successfully tackles all elements of video content, allowing media professionals to efficiently review their content and identify and resolve quality issues as quickly as possible — a critical factor for staying competitive in today’s streaming and broadcast industry.
