Quortex Switch is for any provider managing a multi-CDN environment to stream at scale. It is particularly beneficial for international sports content providers managing large numbers of CDNs with different topologies in each region.
As the industry’s first standards-based, cloud-native SaaS CDN switching solution, it allows content providers to address inefficiencies in today’s streaming architectures and the challenges of streaming at scale. To meet growing demand for live streaming – particularly for large-scale sports events – providers need smart, scalable, and cost-effective solutions. Quortex Switch meets all these needs while setting a new benchmark for intelligent multi-CDN traffic management, real-time QoE optimisation, and sustainable cost control.
Traditional CDN switching relies heavily on DNS redirection or complex custom, proprietary techniques which offer limited control and require restarting a viewer’s session, resulting in service interruptions. However, with Quortex Switch, viewers are routed seamlessly from one CDN to another in real-time, mid-stream, without buffering or playback disruption. This delivers a substantial improvement in QoE, even if there is fluctuating network reliability or potential regional CDN failures.
This breakthrough is possible by supporting the latest content steering standards. By embracing open standards and eliminating the need for proprietary client-side code, Quortex Switch simplifies multi-CDN architecture, avoids vendor lock-in, and supports flexible integration with any CDN provider, including Synamedia’s Fluid EdgeCDN.
In September 2025, Synamedia announced that Orange is partnering with Synamedia allow content providers to use Quortex Switch for a flexible multi-CDN strategy that seamlessly integrate several CDN providers, enabling content providers to expand their coverage and reach new markets, particularly in the Middle East and Africa region, where Orange has an extensive footprint.
This partnership allows content providers to expand distribution without altering existing infrastructure or disrupting current CDN partnerships. It allows them to streamline delivery based on Quality of Experience metrics and features the ability to segment viewers based on their geo-location.
Key features:
Audience segmentation: Features rules-based delivery by geography, ISP, device type, or streaming protocol. It can assign dedicated CDNs to specific viewer groups.
Event-based routing: Supports peak traffic, such as sports events, with tailored offloading strategies.
Real-time QoE monitoring: Integrated with Mux, it detects playback issues and provides QoE insights
Dynamic multi-CDN routing: Intelligently reroutes viewers mid-session based on a CDN’s performance or health.
Cloud-native: it’s easy to deploy, scale, and manage using the Quortex portal and can be integrated seamlessly with other Quortex services including Quortex Play and Quortex Link.
Performance benefits:
Uninterrupted playback: the viewing experience is maintained even during outages or high traffic loads.
Manage request latency: It intelligently steers users to optimal CDNs based on geography and real-time performance data.
Improved resilience: Offers instant disaster recovery capabilities by detecting and bypassing CDN failures in real-time.
