VIRTUAL NOC TECHNOLOGY

For video service providers, the rise of streaming presents a significant opportunity to expand their viewing base, boost monetization, and ultimately increase revenue. However, it also poses several challenges due to the inherently complex OTT distribution environment, including streaming errors that can adversely affect the user experience. To add to the pressure, modern viewers expect their streaming services to work flawlessly everywhere they go, on whichever device they are using at that time. Witbe’s virtual NOC, the Remote Eye Controller (REC), is the only technology on the market that addresses the challenge of monitoring what viewers are seeing on their actual devices by providing remote access to local test devices, real-time alerts, KPIs, and test results.

Video service providers rely on a Network Operations Center (NOC), a centralized location where a Video Operations team can monitor the source stream of their service. However, a traditional NOC cannot monitor what is received by viewers at home, which can be vastly different from what was sent out. The REC is Witbe’s virtual NOC, a web app where teams can monitor and supervise their video service in real time. It aggregates video streams of local real testing devices, from Set-Top Boxes, OTT devices, and streaming sticks to mobile phones, Smart TVs, and gaming consoles, on the same screen in a mosaic. When paired with a traditional NOC, video service providers can efficiently observe any differences between what is sent out from their source broadcast and what is received on real devices in the field.

In order to accurately measure the Quality of Experience (QoE) that viewers actually receive, video service providers need to test and monitor how their streaming video apps run on real devices and networks in the markets where their service operates. The REC removes the limitations of traditional device testing, empowering providers to access and control their testing devices from anywhere in the world. This eliminates the time and expense required for engineers to travel thousands of miles to test specific malfunctioning devices in the field and empowers multiple teams to work on the same data. With the REC, providers can test their video service running on a device halfway across the world from the comfort of their own smartphone’s web browser.

Once automation is activated, Key Performance Indicators measured through real device tests will also appear in real time in the REC mosaic. Teams will be able to immediately see when a live channel goes down, a streaming asset is unavailable on their platform, or an automated test fails. Team members can then easily capture and share video clip recordings to verify and escalate errors when they strike. This easily readable instant feedback empowers service providers to monitor their service’s availability, performance, and video quality on the same interface where they’re already working, minimizing the number of different applications they have to check for quick error resolution.

The REC was built to be a virtual workspace where teams can collaborate with ease, supporting an unlimited number of users all working with the same real devices. Team members can chat directly in the REC interface, as well as leave comments on recordings or logs to give context to their coworkers. Users can request control of a specific device from another team member directly in the web app. It allows teams to “speak the same language” as they all work on the same data to deliver the best video service possible.

With a virtual NOC, video service providers can monitor their service on real devices, immediately catch errors, and share video clips and collaborate with their teams and partners to resolve them efficiently. It helps providers deliver the best viewing experience possible. Witbe’s Remote Eye Controller is designed to support the evolving needs of service providers now and in the future. The REC deserves to win this award for being the only product on the market that provides remote access to actual consumer devices with real-time KPIs and test results, giving providers eyes and ears on their service at all times and simplifying global team collaboration to deliver optimal quality for video streaming services. 6737ef3eef967-Virtual NOC Tec
