AJA and Avid Develop Avid Artist | DNxIP Thunderbolt 3 Interface
Avid Artist | DnxIP is a new hardware interface option for Avid Media Composer users that supports high frame rate, deep colour and high dynamic range IP workflows. The device is built with Thunderbolt 3 I/O enabling the transfer of SMPTE standard HD video over 10 GigE IP networks, with high-quality local monitoring over 3G-SDI and HDMI 2.0.
Based on AJA's new Io IP, a capture and output device for broadcast IP workflows (see below), Avid Artist | DNxIP has been customised to Avid’s specifications. It has an XLR audio input on the front of the device for microphone or line level sources, a downstream keyer and uses Thunderbolt 3 connectivity for simple, fast HD/SD video and audio ingest/output from and to IP networks.
Built into a portable aluminum housing, it has two Thunderbolt 3 ports for daisy-chaining up to six devices, and two cages for SFP+ connector transceivers allowing video and audio routing over 10 GigE IP networks. The interface also supports SMPTE 2022-6 uncompressed video, audio and VANC data over IP, plus SMPTE 2022-7 for redundancy protection.
Compatible with Thunderbolt 3 equipped Macs and PCs, the new AJA Io IP device that the DnxIP is based on has essentially the same specifications and purpose - simplifying the transfer of SMPTE standard HD video over 10 GigE IP networks, with local monitoring over 3G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 supporting HFR, deep colour and HDR workflows. This interface works with various production, post, mastering and streaming equipment from Apple, Adobe, Avid, Autodesk, Telestream, FilmLight and others. Its compatibility extends to creative applications including Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple FCP X, Avid Media Composer, FilmLight grading and finishing software, AJA Control Room and so on.
Both devices were shown at Inter BEE 2017 in Japan in November. Avid Artist | DNxIP will be available through Avid resellers in early 2018. www.avid.com
