Matrox Monarch EDGE Ships for 4K/UHD Streaming and Remote Workflows

Matrox Monarch EDGE2

Matrox’s Monarch EDGE 4K UHD/multi-HD, low-latency encoders are now shipping, able to preserve and deliver video at resolutions up to 3840x2160p60 or quad 1920x1080p60 video. Users can choose 3G/12G-SDI or SMPTE ST 2110 25 GbE connectivity with options to stream via multiple protocols. Use cases span webcasting, remote production over IP and encoding for high-density contribution.

Monarch EDGE is available in two models with specifications to suit different types of work, both at an affordable price. The 4:2:0 8-bit encoder is a good match for webcasting and OTT delivery and costs AU$12,690, and the 4:2:2 10-bit version at AU$16,790 supports remote production and remote integration (REMI) workflows.

Live Streaming and Webcasts

Monarch EDGE’s H.264 encoding engine is robust and dynamic enough to generate over 16 streams, targeting the main online video platforms simultaneously- including YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, IBM Cloud Video and LinkedIn – when users need greater reach and exposure. Improving on the viewing experience compared to traditional linear programming, the engine is built to take advantage of recent live-event webcasting developments such as high frame rate 4K, 4K 360 VR and multi-camera switching - and to stream live content effectively to devices from smartphones and tablets to laptops, desktops and smart TVs.

Remote Production over IP

By using efficient remote production workflows and techniques, broadcasters can limit the production staff, equipment and costs required to produce live, multi-camera events in the field. Monarch EDGE can be used in such workflows, increasing operational efficiency by keeping more of the talent and production crew in the studio. The EDGE encoder is compact, low-latency, low-power and able to output up to four synchronised, secure camera feeds from the field over IP to a centralised on-premises or cloud-based production system with the resources needed to produce high quality live programming.

High-density Contribution Channels

The contribution- or mezzanine-level encoding capabilities of Monarch EDGE give broadcasters a means to supply backhaul feeds of uncut program content or redundant contribution channels, augmenting or complementing their primary feeds. It delivers four channels of 4:2:2 10-bit, broadcast-quality streams and has enough encoding horsepower to generate simultaneous low-bitrate 4:2:0 proxy streams for each input, which can be monitored by any device on the network.

Central Remote Control

Matrox has also developed Monarch EDGE Control Hub software for remote-control management and configuration of network-connected encoders from a central location. Designated authorised users have high-level views of all devices and full access and control from a single interface.   www.matrox.com
