An API integration is now established between InSync’s FrameFormer standards conversion software engine and AWS Elemental MediaConvert that carries out motion compensated frame rate conversion on-demand.
Elemental MediaConvert is a file-based media transcoding service for broadcast from Amazon Web Services (AWS), which content owners can use to generate video-on-demand content for broadcast and multiscreen delivery at scale. The service combines video and audio capabilities with a web services interface and pay-as-you-go pricing.
Owners that want to take advantage of automated content preparation services can use FrameFormer’s integration with MediaConvert to deliver content at any desired video frame rate using motion compensation, currently the most commonly accepted approach for smooth motion video output while preserving the material’s original quality. When inserting content of a lower frame rate into higher frame rate material, the motion compensation process will interpolate new frames using motion estimation algorithms, keeping the flow of frames consistent and uninterrupted.
Considering the very wide range of standards needed to meet the needs of international content distribution, a reliable on-demand frame rate conversion service is a practical way to handle a complex technical task, while avoiding errors. FrameFormer conversion can be added to any content preparation workflow under the control of AWS Elemental MediaConvert.
It will typically be deployed to normalize content to the house standard or to localise content based on a required delivery standard. In either case, sequences of video frames will be passed to FrameFormer, where new output frames will be generated based on the application of InSync’s established motion analysis and estimation algorithms.
James Shepherd, Chief Technology Officer of InSync Technology Ltd said, “The InSync FrameFormer software engine is a great fit for MediaConvert, as we require CPU-only resources – which allows the flexibility and scalability that on-demand video services require.”
AWS Elemental MediaConvert customers will be able to choose the InSync FrameFormer motion compensated frame rate conversion service as a paid-for add-on option from within the AWS Elemental MediaConvert console, without having to obtain a separate license. www.insync.tv
