Elemental Statmux helps broadcasters, content owners and pay
TV operators to design scalable unified infrastructure supporting
traditional broadcast and multiscreen linear video delivery.
Elemental Integrates Traditional & Multiscreen Video Infrastructures
Elemental Technologies has expanded its products to support statistical multiplexing and management operations in large-scale video processing deployments. This means broadcasters, content owners and pay TV operators can design flexible, scalable unified infrastructure that supports both traditional broadcast and multiscreen linear video delivery.
At NAB 2015, Elemental will demonstrate software-defined video systems that integrate functions including statistical multiplexing, end-to-end redundancy and multiscreen content delivery allowing pay TV operators to architect unified headends for linear channel operations. Elemental says that their video encoding, multiplexing and system management are able to extract more bandwidth capacity from networks, ensuring reliable 24/7 operations and lowering total cost of ownership for linear video delivery when deploying hundreds of channels.
Latin American pay TV operatorTCCis using Elemental Statmux to optimize its linear video delivery. A Uruguayan content distributor, TCC tested Elemental Statmux and determined that the system can deliver 15 to 20 percent bandwidth savings compared to TCC’s existing video processing solution.
“TCC is currently deploying Elemental Statistical Multiplexing on our DVB-S2 satellite infrastructure,” said Marcelo Coggan, chief technology officer for TCC. “Our investment in Elemental systems will support our efforts as a pay TV operator and also as a provider to a many pay TV operators in Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and other countries in the region.”
For more sophisticated 4K UHD TV and unified headend strategies, Elemental Live encoders can ingest 4K UHD or HD content and transcode it into parallel HEVC UHD and MPEG-2 or H.264 HD and SD streams, allowing one system to create multi-resolution channel statmux outputs from a single source. Whatever the codec combination, a linear video delivery workflow from Elemental is designed to adapt and grow with evolving cable, satellite and terrestrial network requirements. The ability to mix resolutions and codecs on the same mux channel opens many different possibilities for TV operators and enables a smooth migration path from legacy standards.
In conjunction with the launch of Elemental Statmux, the latest release of Elemental Conductor management software includes functionality pay TV operators require for large-scale live workflows. New capabilities such as bulk actions that allow multiple channels to be stopped, started and edited simultaneously simplifies management of hundreds of channels while ensuring configurations are synchronized. The combined capabilities of template-based channel configuration and secure authentication help users to make sure all channels are configured with the desired settings by authorized users. Manual or automatic failover switching with customer-defined conditions add a layer of redundancy control pay TV operators expect.
Elemental will demonstrate its next-generation linear video delivery solutions at NAB 2015, 13-16 April. www.elementaltechnologies.com
