Maxon ZBrush digital sculpting software is now available in a new 2024 version. It includes updates to brushes and strokes, new mesh controls and changes to masking.

An updated Anchors Brush system serves as a simpler way to deform meshes by applying anchors onto a mesh while allowing users to perform actions, with or without symmetry. The Anchors Brush actions include MOVE, ROTATE, MOVEROTATE, SCALE, INFLATE and TWIST. Masking the surface is no longer required to use the brush.

The Knife Brushes now have more design dexterity with Split to Parts (see above), a set of features allowing parts to be cut off and retained, giving users more control when manipulating assets. You can create complex component parts from existing parts, while the sliced parts remain active.

Insert Mesh brushes are now compatible with Stroke menu options, resulting in further design variations. For instance, any Insert brush can be combined with Curve Mode in the Stroke Palette. Artists can then drop multiple instances of the mesh along the curve.

Designing surface details and adding secondary elements to models is now easier to achieve with the Repeat to Similar function. Repeat to Similar repeats changes on a mesh with the same polygon count as the source mesh being edited. Functionality includes the ability to make sculpting changes, full mesh replacement, Masking and Polygrouping.

The new Dragstamp stroke option helps to increase and enhance surface details in real-time, including adjusting the intensity of the stroke in real-time by moving the cursor left and right, or up and down. Dragstamp expands the userโ€™s capacity to apply details to the surfaces of assets. Regarding surfaces, 25 new Cinema 4D surface noises add robust methods for detailing assets.

The Grow All and Shrink All masking functions were developed to refine usersโ€™ control over the application of masks to the surfaces of models. The Grow All function expands masking on the surfaces of assets by growing the currently selected portion of the mask when a portion of the mask is touching adjacent faces and terminates at the end of geometrical shells. Shrink All reduces the size of a mask, to terminate at a point where the mask resolves and meets the end of a geometric shell.

New buttons like Crease UnMasked and Uncrease UnMasked prepare meshes for dynamic edge control. Crease Unmasked aims to control the application of Masking across transitional areas where faces meet and form edges, ultimately expanding control over creased areas.

The Gizmo and Transpose functions include topology masking for both of these tools while allowing snapping on perfectly masked areas. The Gizmo is now capable of snapping to the centre of masked regions. www.maxon.net
