Integrating EasyTools’ transcoding software with NETINT’s Quadra VPUs results in an effective way to increase transcoding density while keeping operational costs and energy usage low.
EasyTools, video infrastructure software developer, and VPU specialist NETINT Technologies have collaborated on a new transcoding system that they will launch at NAB Show 2025. By integrating EasyTools’ transcoding software with NETINT’s Quadra Video Processing Units (VPUs), the system gives broadcasters and streaming services an effective new way to markedly increase transcoding density while keeping operational costs and energy consumption low.
Their combined approach works well for users such as sports broadcasters who need to deliver multiple live events simultaneously to a global audience at broadcast quality. Traditionally, this kind of operation would require a substantial investment in server infrastructure and result in high energy consumption.
Using EasyTools’ modular software and NETINT’s Quadra VPU hardware, streamers and broadcasters can significantly reduce infrastructure requirements, replacing up to ten servers with only one. This reduces not only capital expenditure but energy usage as well, with each Quadra VPU consuming 20 watts instead of 400 watts for a server running software encoding.
The EasyTools transcoding software operates on regular commercial servers, which deliver video from and to IP sources or SDI/HDMI via Blackmagic Design cards. It has a Low latency mode, overlays and direct input switching, with a filter library that includes deinterlacing or frame rate conversion. Its SDI features include support for embedded audio, ancillary data, OP47 subtitles and SCTE-104 markers, and it is compatible with MPEG-2, AVC and HEVC codecs.
The software can now use NETINT Quadra VPUs to offload video processing tasks from the CPU. Quadra VPUs, including the Quadra Video Server, are designed for high-density, low-power video encoding, giving it an edge in modern broadcasting and integration with EasyTools powered infrastructure.
“Broadcasters and operators are under pressure to deliver high-quality content efficiently,” said Christophe Massiot, Founder & CEO of EasyTools. “Our partnership with NETINT gives us the means to limit the number of servers in operation and make streaming more affordable and sustainable.”
