EuroLeague is producing varied live content from multiple venues with as much scalability as possible, using LiveU devices and services for transmission, production and distribution.

LiveU EuroLeague LiveShow FinalFour

EuroLeague is Europe’s premier men’s basketball competition, currently building up its social media activities for the new 2025-26 season. To further grow the sport's appeal to younger audiences, EuroLeague is increasing its real-time video content creation for its millions of followers.

The season got underway on 30 September at Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. In recent years, the EuroLeague has undertaken greater involvement with teams in the Middle East. A key event was the season’s Final Four held in Abu Dhabi, the first final tournament to be held outside of Europe. The league has now expanded to 20 teams from several different countries for 2025–26, with Dubai Basketball licensed as the first team from outside of Europe – excluding the Israeli teams – to play in the competition.

In collaboration with LiveU, EuroLeague is producing a wide variety of high quality live content, in as scalable a manner as possible. As the new season kicks off in Dubai where Dubai Basketball met Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade, the league is deploying LiveU systems for the first time. A number of components from the LiveU EcoSystem are in use, spanning live transmission, production and distribution equipment.

Around the Arenas - Acquisition and Transmission

Throughout the coming months, EuroLeague plans to use the new gear and services for games to be held in different cities across Europe and the Middle East. Combining LiveU's portable video encoders with the cloud-native LiveU Studio production service, the EuroLeague's content creators can receive exclusive footage from any basketball arena via the cloud. As part of a complete, integrated solution with a coherent workflow, they are also able to produce their content in real-time either from the league’s new Barcelona headquarters studio or any preferred remote workplace.

Out in the field, the setup is relatively simple and quick to set up. The camera operator can connect the cameras to a portable LiveU LU800 encoder and start the transmission within a few seconds. The LU800 can support up to four high-res, frame-synced feeds from a single portable unit – a license turns the device into a multi-cam unit at any time. Its native 5G transmission, antenna performance and compatibility with all cellular wireless frequencies, including sub 6GHz 5G and LTE, maintains low latency.

With a mobile setup, the field crews can move around freely in the EuroLeague host cities and keep up with the action. Using LiveU's cellular bonding based on its LRT (LiveU Reliable Transport) protocol and up to 8 internal 5G/4G dual SIM modems to give the process a level of resilience, the live camera signal is delivered to a cloud server where it is immediately available for editing in LiveU Studio. Depending on the cameras in use, the LU800 can support transmission at up to 4Kp60 10-bit HDR for greater colour depth.

From Content Creation to Social Media Distribution

EuroLeague is working with LiveU Studio software, which is controllable from web browsers, to add graphics dynamically and publish the program feed live on chosen social media platforms in only a few steps. "Using a combination of LiveU’s compact and cloud-based systems, instead of travelling with heavy equipment or setting up a temporary production facility on-site, means we have the flexibility to go live from any EuroLeague city,” said Julien Segui, EuroLeague Basketball Head of Content.

“Our content creators can venture out in the cities where the Rivalry Series games take place and stream rough, authentic content – adding the street credibility and the behind the scenes access that our fans want to experience on a live basis.” The Rivalry Series focuses on one key fixture per round. Its games will build on historic and new rivalries around the league, aiming to build momentum round-by-round, to bring fans closer to the action and spark conversation.

Rivalry Series will hit EuroLeague platforms using a 360º strategy – on-site social media coverage, a pre- and post-game show for selected Rivalry Series games, special podcasts recorded at the Euroleague Basketball headquarters and other elements.

"At EuroLeague, we see ourselves as the world's most passionate basketball league, and we have exciting stories to share. We're excited about creating content with LiveU, enhancing direct interactions with our digital community, as well as direct interaction with each other." www.liveu.tv
