ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE’s broadcast studio on their new campus helps them scale up their live workflow for the future with EVS production servers, asset management and replay systems.

ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE media and digital group has built a new broadcast studio to be part of the company’s new campus, consisting of three buildings designed to accommodate about 1,700 employees from mid-2023 onwards.

Under the future set-up, ProSiebenSat.1’s production and editorial teams will be learning and adapting to new, more collaborative, flexible workflows for creating fast-turnaround content for the broadcaster’s live sports and entertainment formats.

“The move to our new campus is an opportunity for us to completely reconstruct our day-to-day operations,” said Holger Schwenk, Vice President Playout & Production Solutions at ProSiebenSat.1 Tech Solutions, the technical department of ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE. “We were looking for a rock solid, fail-safe way of expanding our live production workflow and making it possible to scale up to support future growth.”

Holger’s team is adopting the EVS LiveCeption Signature system for live production, replays and highlights. Running the entire workflow are EVS’ XT-VIA and XS-VIA production servers, configured to ingest multiple, simultaneous live feeds in video formats including UHD/4K, 1080p and HDR. Increasing the overall flexibility, the EVS servers also carry out 1080p to UHD-4K upscaling and, later on, they will ease the studio’s transition to IP, due to their live IP support of ST 2110, NMOS and related industry standards.

For live production asset management, ProSiebenSat.1 has chosen the EVS MediaCeption Signature system, which is designed so that users can perform all the media workflow functions needed for live or near-live productions from regular web-based interfaces.

It also uses EVS live production servers, combined with media management tools – for ingest of multiple live feeds, importing files/ENG material in order to log, edit and manage the content – and a storage system. It maintains interoperability with other 3rd party software and hardware including Avid MediaCentral for edit-while-capture workflows for live sports and entertainment.

During live production, ProSiebenSat.1’s replay operators will be working at LSM-VIA replay production systems. These are another key component of the LiveCeption Signature workflow that gives instant access to content through the XNet-VIA 10-Gbps bidirectional Ethernet-based network, which executes fast transfers to and from the servers.

LSM-VIA’s touchscreen layout of replay and highlight operations, with slow-motion and super slow-motion, is customisable with programmable buttons, shortcuts, tactile control and semi-automated functions. Users can export and flatten media to any destination, and a second viewer serves as an interface to the whole VIA production environment.

Nicolas Bourdon, Chief Marketing Officer at EVS said, “With these comprehensive workflows, ProSiebenSat.1 will have a simplified production architecture that will help them increase the speed and flexibility of their operations, and enhance the value of their productions as the company begins a new phase of growth and development.”    evs.com
