Appear plans to extend its X Platform and VX at NAB with two new products – compact X5 for live applications and the VX Media Gateway for agile software-based media processing.
The X5 was developed for operators handling high-value content at a lower volume per site, but with the same level of performance as the X10 and X20. Housed in a more compact, portable chassis, X5 is purpose-built for live production, remote contribution and cloud-based workflows. It handles compression, ultra-low latency and IP connectivity and suits broadcasters looking for agile remote production options, as well as smaller scale operators operators that need cost-effective, high-quality media transport.
Andy Rayner, CTO at Appear said, “X5 brings the effectiveness and flexibility of Appear’s X Platform to a wider market, and combines high performance, efficiency and IP workflows." Appear’s original X Platform is a high-capacity, high-density, low-latency modular hardware platform for media processing and gateway. Designed for use in high-speed video networking, robust IP security and compression, it supports efficient, broadcast-grade workflows for live video production and distribution.
The X5 now makes the transition to IP-based live production easier and more cost-effective, and includes support for AVC and HEVC encoding and decoding, uncompressed workflows (SDI and ST2110), Appear’s hardware-accelerated SRT (aSRT) and security features
Appear is also launching the VX Media Gateway at NAB. It will be the first major addition to its continuously evolving VX software-based media processing platform, which is based on open media technology to emphasise agility and flexibility. Media service providers use VX to rapidly develop new production workflows. It is able to integrate with and adapt to diverse infrastructure and hardware while taking advantage of the performance, resilience and ultra-low latency of modern hardware.
Now with the VX Media Gateway, broadcasters and service providers can design hybrid cloud/on-premise workflows, and make better use of software-defined architectures to simplify and scale their media transport.
“As the industry shifts toward flexible, software-driven workflows, VX helps users keep their media processing relevant to their purposes,” Andy Rayner said. “VX brings the ability to scale, adapt and maximise efficiency across cloud and hardware environments.” www.appear.net
