On Telstra’s global network, Telstra Dynamic Connect works across fibre, internet, satellite and 5G to establish the throughput and reliability live event productions need.

TBS dynamic connect2

Telstra Dynamic Connect, a new broadcast connectivity and services platform from Telstra Broadcast Services (TBS), delivers content from venues and events across Australia with assured connectivity. These services can be accessed through a managed, software-defined network for venues, sporting codes and broadcasters and are scaled to handle various IP production models, supporting cost-effective, stable production from a wider range of locations.

Based on new developments in Telstra’s global network, Telstra Dynamic Connect is able to exploit fibre, internet, satellite and 5G technology. Through diversity, these services establish the throughput and reliable performance that live event producers need to bring critical high-quality broadcasts to air.

Telstra is investing in its 5G network, including an $800 million increase in mobile network investment over the next four years. Telstra is using 5G connectivity to tailor their infrastructure to serve specific customer requirements, optimising performance for various applications. Telstra Broadcast Services will add 5G as a key pillar of the Telstra Dynamic Connect system of assured services.

Moving Data Faster and Further

Telstra Broadcast Services CEO Karen Clark said, “With Telstra Dynamic Connect, broadcasters and sporting codes can move data faster, reach further and capture stories once thought impossible due to cost and resource constraints. Using Telstra’s global network – which now includes 5G, fibre, internet and satellite transport – and managing how it’s accessed, customers within Australia can now deliver live, broadcast-quality content and only pay for what they need, when they need it.”

Telstra Dynamic Connect is expanding access to broadcast-grade connectivity across Australia, which means more fans are able to watch their teams play, whether matches take place at metropolitan stadiums or regional community sports venues. By increasing reach, clubs and sporting organisations can set up new revenue opportunities through sponsorships and advertising. Venues benefit from greater facility utilisation as well, including demand for venue hire and hospitality services.

Karen said, “Traditional broadcasting methods can typically be expensive and require significant infrastructure, which has tended to limit broadcasts to major sporting leagues and live events. Telstra Dynamic Connect extends coverage to more venues, sporting codes and broadcasters, irrespective of their size or location.”

Industrial Edge Compute

In practical terms, Telstra Dynamic Connect’s industrial edge compute units are installed on-site at the venue by Telstra and managed, monitored and orchestrated by TBS. Cameras or production equipment onsite can input data directly into the edge. From there, data can be delivered anywhere, on any platform that the customer requires, from a mainstream broadcast channel to an internet stream.

"The edge compute component of Telstra Dynamic Connect is a key differentiator, allowing us to deploy based on the required workflows of the customer,” said Karen. “Accessing an extensive system of services, it is designed for both current and future production models, ensuring the adoption of new services as they are released."

Automation and Open Standards

Telstra Dynamic Connect’s network and services are closely automated, helping to speed up deployment. It also employs open integration standards, which means customers can use their own workflows with fewer integration issues, and which supports remote integration production models that help reduce production costs further.

The platform integrates with Telstra’s recently released Adaptive Networks, advanced 5G and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Satellite as well, for redundancy and resilience with service flexibility. Its flexible pricing models allow users to only pay for what they use.

With dedicated 24/7 broadcast operational support to observe and monitor the platform, broadcasters and those seeking access can be more certain that services will be available and reliable each time they book. Dynamic Connect also makes multiple independent interfaces available for broadcast and non-broadcast services such as video, internet, talkback, telemetry and Camera Control Unit (CCU) and multiple independent interfaces for access.  www.telstra.com.au
