LiveU Nexus simplifies media input and output across protocols with cloud-native video routing and transformation; and LiveU Schedule plans and orchestrates live broadcast resources.
LiveU has developed two new services for live content producers. LiveU Nexus is a cloud-native universal gateway for digital and IP-based workflows, and the new Schedule SaaS platform centralises live broadcast resource booking, scheduling and orchestration.
LiveU Nexus moves IP-video content in and out of different platforms and environments, including SDI, SMPTE 2110 and NDI-based production systems, using existing and new workflows.
Simplifying Digital Video Capture
Designed to simplify complex IP workflows – especially those for capturing digital video – LiveU Nexus acts as an efficient universal gateway for all IP-based feeds moving within the LiveU EcoSystem. It gives full access to live feeds to and from any systems, and allows operators to bring in, transform, route and output streams in a few seconds, while using their existing or newly configured workflows.
Any type of feed can be directly connected, from anywhere or to anywhere – including SRT, RTMP, HLS, LiveU's own LRT (LiveU Reliable Transport) and others – between on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure. Producers can pull in live content from Zoom, YouTube and other social media platforms with a simple URL or meeting link without installing converters or designing workarounds.
Matt Zajicek, VP Product at LiveU, said, "Broadcasters who find they are pressured to integrate a growing number of IP and digital video sources can use LiveU Nexus to support their digital transformation and ensure their digital and IP-video workflows can be used into the future. By cutting technical barriers and costs, production teams can focus on creating great content faster and smarter – while maximizing existing investments. Seeing success among our customers who are testing Nexus has encouraged us regarding the potential ahead."
Scalable and Interoperable
The gateway capability is built to grow with production demands in the cloud, as workflows evolve. As well as protocol conversion and digital or social media capturing and routing, elastic cloud scalability is a primary Nexus feature.
Resolutions, frame rates, aspect ratio and codec differences are automatically normalised across the feeds, making sure that every signal is instantly compatible with the downstream tools. In addition, any IP stream can be sent into LiveU's IP cloud services, including LiveU Studio for cloud production, LiveU Ingest for recording or LiveU Matrix for IP distribution, and integrated with an installed base of LiveU receivers, without needing further equipment or configurations.
Nexus users are not limited to the LiveU EcoSystem. Transforming any IP format to LRT and other mainstream protocols, LiveU Nexus pushes live streams directly into LiveU or third-party production systems. Zoom meetings, YouTube videos and Facebook Lives may be incorporated into broadcast workflows, as well as a web browser as an inside input.
Matt Zajicek said, "Interoperability is at the heart of the LiveU EcoSystem, as this latest innovation illustrates. By simplifying workflows and deepening integration across the platform, LiveU makes it easier for producers to maximize the value of their video content."
Scheduling for Live Broadcast Resources
The LiveU Schedule SaaS platform was developed to centralise live broadcast resource booking, scheduling and orchestration. LiveU Schedule enables broadcasters and content teams can quickly plan, schedule and coordinate their live production operations and deploy resources across the entire production workflow – both within and beyond the LiveU EcoSystem.
By centralising resource management in a single interface, LiveU Schedule can improve operational efficiency, shorten production time and cut associated costs.
Pre-integrated with the LiveU EcoSystem, Schedule makes all LiveU products and software solutions readily available for any planned event. However, it also integrates with third-party systems such as encoders, SDI routers, video recorders, HR platforms and corporate messaging tools. Overall, it enhances adaptability and supports future growth as an organisation’s needs evolve.
Amir Kamzel, VP Product, LiveU said, "Many broadcasters and content creators still rely on spreadsheets or pay for siloed on-premise systems. The LiveU Schedule SaaS can automate much of the preparation and coordination required for live production and news coverage, and can also scale to meet operational demands ranging from fast-paced daily news or multi-venue sports production.
"By unifying all production resources, human, hardware and software, within a single cloud-based platform, teams can manage bookings, resources and the most intricate workflows from one interface. This means that global teams can work as one unit – efficiently, reliably and in multiple languages without borders."
Centralised Orchestration and Reporting
LiveU Schedule combines three core elements – centralised scheduling, workflow orchestration, and dashboards and reporting.
The service centralises the booking of all production resources – staff, hardware and software – within one platform. It supports the booking of physical resources such as LiveU units, SDI routers, recording systems, cameras, crews, freelancers and third-party tools, with options for ad-hoc or recurring events.
It integrates with other third-party software and hardware as well, such as NRCS, MAM/PAM systems and production tools to support modern story-centric workflows. By reducing the need to switch between the different systems while planning, orchestrating bookings and scheduling a live production, users can see ways to generate more value from video.
All LiveU units and channels, as well as other software elements, can be orchestrated and made available specifically for each planned event. Repeatable, cross-component workflows are created through an interface. The platform also automates many of the steps for preparing field productions and newsgathering activities, eliminating the need for manual setup across systems.
Real-time dashboards help to visualise operations, while built-in reporting tools generate work orders, task lists and insights that support efficient production planning. LiveU Schedule is accessible directly from the LiveU cloud management platform as part of the LiveU EcoSystem.
LiveU will demonstrate both Nexus and Schedule on their stand at IBC2025, 12 – 15 September in Amsterdam. www.liveu.tv
