Record is a Brazilian free-to-air television network, and among the largest commercial TV stations in the country. A recent systems upgrade, transitioning the network to cloud-based playout infrastructure, means it is now set to move into the streaming linear TV and direct-to-consumer (DTC) markets, substantially changing and updating its digital content delivery service.

Record is launching a streaming system that aims to distribute its PlayPlus platform at high video quality and with a high quality of experience. The service features varied content including news, live studio programs, series and documentaries.

The collaboration is designed to produce and deliver 12 regionalized channels, with plans to expand to over 21 channels. Its main technical objective is to simplify Record’s channel management and enhance the operational efficiency of its digital content management and monetisation.

Efficient Transition

Supplier and systems integrator CIS Group, a major contributor and partner in Record's transition, wanted to expand the network’s digital reach while maintaining comprehensive operational control. “We are using evertz.io cloud services to address Record's need for an efficient, straightforward approach,” said Felipe Andrade, VP of Sales, CIS Group.

evertz.io incorporates customisable Adaptive Bitrate (ABR) streaming via the HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) protocol, and a multichannel dashboard. Its features include SCTE marker integration for smooth live event transitions and a straightforward interface for importing content. The design, continuously adjusted and updated, allows additional channels to be rapidly deployed and scaled, and is tailored to meet the demands of Record's diverse audience as they change.

Record's focus on efficiency is reflected in their requirements for a simple management process. Putting the above features into the context of Record’s operations, their new system uses a custom ABR HLS ladder to optimise video quality, a centralized dashboard for managing multiple channels, and automated live event transitions. The integration makes content imports simpler, and reduces operational overhead, thereby making it possible for a single operator to manage multiple channels.

Monitoring, Management and Automation

Antônio Carlos Sobrinho, Record Technical Project Manager, commented, "evertz.io's services deliver notable advantages, including efficient monitoring and management through the multichannel dashboard, and the SCTE Taker Service enhances the viewer experience by automating the transitions. Its rapid development and deployment time, helping us to achieve tight deadlines, is another example of evertz.io's ability to meet high standards."

With a strategic interest in monetization, Record plans to use dynamic ad insertions, customised to network conditions and viewer preferences. The partnership with Evertz.io has already supported launches and management, which have set the stage for Record's future expansion. As well as rolling out the 21 additional channels, plans include integrating evertz.io's services with an automation system to create new potential for channel management and monetization.
