Broadpeak’s cloud-native server-side ad insertion, delivered via the broadpeak.io SaaS, supports precise ad provision and improved viewing across RMC-BFM’s streaming services.
French media group RMC BFM owns top TV channels such as BFM TV, one of the most popular news channels in France with 12.3 million daily viewers, as well as major radio channels including RMC. They also own a number of OTT applications and partner distribution platforms — including RMC BFM Play, Molotov and other connected TV (CTV) environments.
For all of these services, RMC BFM is aiming to enhance monetization and has recently adopted server-side ad insertion (SSAI), delivered via the broadpeak.io SaaS platform. Broadpeak’s software runs dynamic advertising experiences across the media group’s TV and radio streaming channels.
broadpeak.io gives users access to a complete advertising system comprising server-side ad insertion, ad tracking and ad conditioning. All components are optimized for the viewing experience and cloud scalability.
Managing Dynamic Ad Insertion
A key point of difference for Broadpeak is a ‘clean back to live’ feature for addressable TV, referring to the ability to transition smoothly from ads back to live programming, giving viewers a much less disrupted experience. Other capabilities, such as support for diverse ad formats like L-Banner, allow RMC BFM to consider new monetisation options while maintaining competitive user experiences.
“With broadpeak.io’s SaaS approach, we can readily scale as we expand our digital reach across new platforms and our business evolves,” said Clément Courvoisier, Operations Director at RMC BFM. “Broadpeak shares our innovation values, helping us take advantage of technological developments as we seek to improve audience engagement and explore new revenue streams.”
RMC BFM is using Broadpeak’s SaaS platform to manage dynamic ad insertion across all of its distribution points from a single implementation. In other words, by executing the SSAI logic server-side just once, the group can instantly scale ad delivery across its own OTT apps and a wide network of third-party distributors without duplicating efforts or manually adapting to each platform’s requirements. This flexible, as-a-service model also brings the scalability to handle peak ad loads while ensuring high performance, maximum fill rates and improved revenues.
Manifest Manipulation
In effect, broadpeak.io’s SaaS is a manifest manipulation service for ad insertion. Broadpeak oversees the insertion and replacement of ads directly in the manifest files broadcasters use everyday in HLS and DASH to deliver video to viewers. Broadpeak has pre-integrated its software with all primary ad servers using VAST/VMAP standards, which means the system integration work is shifted away from the customer.
Important features include SCTE35 tag support, on-the-fly ad transcoding to ensure the streams are not interrupted during insertion of new ads, and audio normalisation. The service also protects users against ad server failure and server timing inaccuracy.
“We’re proud to support RMC BFM as they expand their OTT strategy with the highest performance monetization solutions,” said Jacques Le Mancq, CEO at Broadpeak. “RMC BFM is a leading example – in Europe and globally – of how broadcasters can use up to date advertising specifications and innovations to generate revenues, while taking advantage of the flexibility and scalability of the cloud.” www.broadpeak.io
