MovieLabs has announced the creation of the Leadership Council for its Industry Forum, a key initiative to guide the global implementation of the MovieLabs 2030 Vision. The 2030 Vision aims to shape the future of media production by emphasizing security, interoperability, and collaboration across the industry.

The Forum, which was first introduced in August 2024, brings together companies from various sectors that are actively working to reshape their workflows in alignment with this forward-looking vision. Among the inaugural members joining the Forum’s Leadership Council are major film studios—Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Pictures, Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros.—as well as technology and creative leaders like Adobe, Amazon Web Services, Avid, Dolby, DreamWorks Animation and Skywalker Sound. These companies will help prioritize the key areas of focus for the Forum, driving collaborative efforts to create a more efficient and secure ecosystem for media creation.

The need for industry-wide cooperation has become even more pronounced with the growing importance of artificial intelligence in creative workflows. The MovieLabs 2030 Vision addresses how AI tools can be integrated into secure and interoperable systems, benefiting creators and supporting next-generation media production.

Richard Berger, CEO of MovieLabs, announced that Leon Silverman has been appointed as the Chair of the Industry Forum. Leon, who has extensive experience in creative technology through roles at companies like Walt Disney Studios, Netflix and Kodak, has been an advisor to MovieLabs since 2020. He also serves as an advisor to the board of the Hollywood Professional Association (HPA) and is involved with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Television Academy.

Following the launch of the Forum in January 2025, MovieLabs is now inviting companies from around the world to join, including technology service providers, creative service providers, production companies and cloud infrastructure organizations. Members of the Forum will have the opportunity to collaborate directly with MovieLabs and its studio partners, contributing to the development of solutions that improve media production workflows and help realize the goals of the 2030 Vision.

Richard emphasized the importance of adopting emerging technologies in ways that empower storytellers and the creative community. He said, "It’s crucial for our industry to stay ahead of technological advancements in ways that benefit the entire creative process. With the support of the Leadership Council and the Forum’s growing membership, we are on track to achieve the vision that will shape the future of media production."

Leon, reflecting on the importance of industry collaboration, also said, "We’re at a critical moment for our industry when working together is essential to create a future that both honours our legacy and embraces innovation. I’m inspired by the energy and commitment of the Leadership Council and the growing global community of Forum members who share this vision."

Industry representatives echoed Leon’s sentiments. Welford Dillard, CEO of Avid, noted that the company’s mission to "power greater creators" aligns closely with the Forum’s goals. He said, "The MovieLabs 2030 Vision helps us stay focused on supporting creators by providing the tools and standards that improve efficiency in the post-production process."

Doug Sherman, VP of Technology at DreamWorks, also expressed support for the initiative and said, "DreamWorks is proud to be part of this effort to advance production technology standards. We look forward to collaborating with other studios and vendors to realize the vision outlined in the 2030 framework."   www.movielabs.com/IndustryForum
