FOR-A will show FOR-A IMPULSE, a software-defined platform designed to streamline live video production at NAB Show. The platform aims to meet the growing demand for cost-effective, adaptable production solutions. Instead of relying on a range of specialised hardware, FOR-A IMPULSE consolidates essential live production functions into a single, flexible host system.
FOR-A IMPULSE integrates a variety of production tools - signal processing, multi-viewing, switching, graphics, audio mixing and media playback - into software-based nodes. Operators can configure these nodes through a user-friendly graph editor, creating custom production pipelines for specific needs. The software approach enables rapid re-configuration later on, allowing operators to adjust workflows over time to suit different types of productions.
Satoshi Kanemura, President of FOR-A America, said, "The shift to a fully software-based solutions reduces the need for large, physical equipment setups and is a more adaptable approach to live production. This flexibility allows for efficient operations and better use of resources."
The platform addresses key challenges in the live video production sector, including the shortage of skilled technical staff and the rising costs of maintaining multiple devices. By combining multiple functions into a single platform, FOR-A IMPULSE helps to simplify maintenance and reduce technical overhead.
Because the system’s straighforward design allows it to be operated without deep technical expertise, it is accessible to a broader range of users. Comprehensive support services, including license management and customer service, increase the reliability of the system's performance.
With full web browser control, FOR-A IMPULSE supports flexible, remote production workflows. Users can manage operations from nearly any location. Furthermore, hardware panels can be connected for more traditional operation, facilitating collaboration across multiple locations and remote adjustments.
In terms of resource management, FOR-A IMPULSE is compatible with Hi-RDS, a hierarchical RDS (Registration and Discovery System) that allows shared access to resources across different production units, or islands. To ease the adding and sharing of NMOS devices on a Media over IP system built using SMPTE ST 2110 standards, FOR-A designed a hierarchical RDS environment. This enables more efficient equipment use, cost savings and the ability to assign production tasks dynamically across the system.
The platform also supports a range of deployment options. It can run on-premises, in data centres or within public cloud environments, giving users the flexibility to choose the best infrastructure based on their budget and operational needs. For future cloud deployments, FOR-A IMPULSE will offer scalable systems, allowing users to start with smaller, cost-efficient instances and scale up as needed.
With its adaptable and efficient design, FOR-A IMPULSE aims to make live video production more accessible and scalable, whether on-site or in the cloud. FOR-A is also committed to ongoing updates, with future releases planned for both the on-premise model and cloud-based solutions. https://www.for-a.com
