Media Prima Berhad implemented a fully automated, integrated workflow from Imagine capable of supporting reliable, fast turnaround for news transmission over multiple platforms.
Media Prima Berhad in Malaysia operates four television channels – TV3, 8TV, NTV7 and TV9 – and the video streaming platform Tonton. It also owns and runs Primeworks Studios, a content production company that produces programs for Media Prima’s channels.
Wanting to modernize and simplify its news production for greater efficiency, Media Prima Berhad implemented a fully automated and integrated workflow capable of supporting reliable, fast turnaround for news transmission over multiple platforms.
Server, Storage, NRCS Integration
The system’s Nexio+ AMP video servers, from Imagine Communications, control and automate their news production process from ingest to delivery. “The system’s integrated nature helped to keep implementation simple and makes the production process more efficient,” said Mathias Eckert, senior vice president and general manager, EMEA and APAC, for Imagine Communications.
The workflow will retain much of its value over time, as well. Mathias said, “Today, the system will make it easier for journalists to tell their stories and producers to get them on air quickly. Then as requirements evolve, the software architecture, hosted on COTS hardware, will make it simpler and more cost-effective to scale channels and storage without having to take the system off the air.”
The new Imagine system combines the servers with IOX Storage and the Nexio MOS Gateway, which integrates with Media Prima Berhad’s Octopus newsroom computer system [NRCS] and EditShare asset management.
Nexio+ AMP servers support all broadcast-grade codecs, and perform high-availability playout and ingest operations, including playout of different formats and resolutions back-to-back. MOS-compatible, Nexio integrates with many different internal or third-party control applications, scaling to hundreds of channels, available with internal or external storage. In MCR environments, Nexio supports distributed architectures in playout system deployments for multiple vendors.
Intelligent Control
The Versio Ingest Scheduler optimizes resources with an intelligent control application that handles scheduled and crash records by controlling pools of recording ports in Nexio servers. It can assign free ports intelligently, based on the recording jobs planned and the selected video source, to write content into the media storage, and also allows users to prioritise certain jobs. Preview, transfer and transcode are all supported, as well as metadata preparation during ingest.
Imagine’s IOX Storage enables capacity or bandwidth to be scaled, and the Nexio MOS Gateway connects the NRCS through its local area network (LAN) to the Nexio server system LAN. Working jointly with the NRCS, the Nexio MOS Suite of tools ties together all components into a single, cohesive news making system.
