National Telecom Public Company Limited (NT) broadcast live coverage from the Southeast Asian Games 2025 in Thailand, one of the region's largest sporting events, held from 9 – 20 December at venues around the couintry.

NT needed to ensure reliable, highquality live contribution across the Games' venues and broadcast centres, where operational stability and performance were critical. NT used KYRION encoding/decoding appliances from Ateme as the core platform of its event contribution infrastructure, placing it at the centre of video transport operations

NT successfully delivered 1080p 10-bit 4:2:2 workflows with low and stable latency, meeting the standards of international sports production. KYRION's compact, broadcast-grade design simplified field operations and ensured consistent performance across the network. The front-panel video monitoring and remote supervision capabilities eased day-to-day operations across multiple sites.

"For an event of this scale, operational reliability and picture quality are essential," said Colonel Chuchart Pimprasert, IBC Manager at NT. "KYRION gives our teams confidence in daily operations and stable performance in the field."

The platform also brought long-term investment protection. KYRION supports software upgrades up to UHD, allowing future evolution without hardware replacement. It has an optional, cost-effective BISS-CA security upgrade for robust content protection, and Ateme's continuous software evolution assures NT that the system will remain aligned with industry developments.

Recent Evolution

The most recent evolution of the KYRION series, the DR5000e decoder, is designed specifically for live sports and events, emphasising video quality, ultra-low latency and reliability in a compact device. Equipped with dual-channel UHD, it also works directly across satellite, ASI and IP workflows. Software upgrades are available to increase capacity without changing hardware.

Engineered for hybrid and IP workflows, it has the flexibility to handle upcoming SMPTE 2110 and HLS contribution ingest workflows. Recently upgraded with new decoding capabilities, Harmonic says KYRION is designed to support evolving formats and operational requirements into the next decade, combining broadcast-grade performance with software-based flexibility.

Integrated BISS-CA – Ready for Cloud and OTT

Integrated BISS-CA protection helps prepare for OTT and cloud-based delivery models. BISS-CA enables interoperability of standards-compliant encoders and receivers with a conditional access controller. It can add or remove specific receivers in real-time, without disrupting the other receivers.

With dynamic rolling keys support, BISS-CA keeps live content secure. The system continuously and automatically generates and replaces cryptographic keys either at regular intervals or after certain conditions are met, rather than remaining static and fixed. Old keys are retired and new ones take over, often without manual intervention.

"KYRION has been trusted in the contribution market for over 20 years," said Duc Long Nguyen, Regional Sales Manager for Thaïland at Ateme. "Its stability, low-latency performance, and UHD software upgrade path make it a future-ready platform for national-scale infrastructures."

The deployment during coverage of the Southeast Asian Games also showed Kyrion’s robustness, and contributed to high-quality production workflows across NT's network. www.ateme.com
