An updated version of Nara, FilmLight’s review, approval and compliance software for post production workflows, is coming to IBC2024 with new streaming features for accessing data and files, project management and security tools and Baselight integration.

FilmLight Nara gives immediate access to media from anywhere, making it available for tasks such as progress reviews, approvals and compliance processes. Its core features are native decodes and media playback without the need to transcode to proxy files, colour accurate streaming, a full back-end index and wide codec support.

Having all of these capabilities in one application can save facilities time and money during the creative pipeline, supporting editors, colourists, VFX artists, cinematographers, producers and directors who need to collaborate efficiently with clients and marketing managers.

External Streaming and Baselight Integration

With the recent version of Nara, users can now stream media directly to clients' external devices, while maintaining full colour accuracy. For clients needing an impromptu review session, instant client feedback, or when a professional suite can’t be found at short notice, this streaming feature gives the client immediate, simple access to accurate media. Workflows can keep flowing and quality is preserved.

Accessing Baselight scene data

Also new to Nara are improvements to its integration with Baselight, FilmLight’s colour grading system. These updates allows users to view and access critical scene information remotely. Users can now view active scenes at any time – including scene files and associated metadata – and stream images from within the scene. This integration bridges the gap between physical and remote access and ensures everyone understands the key issues, while improving team coordination and efficiency.

Project Management

Nara’s project features are also updated. For instance, users can see all media within a project in a single window, and use custom project templates to tailor workflows to specific needs – selecting file types, input colour space, format mapping and so on. To improve security, users can control access to specific areas of a project, which minimises distractions at the same time. Teams may also choose to either implement custom colour pipelines, or apply industry-standard options like ACES 2.0.

Related to controlled access, Nara now integrates a new tiered user support feature. Users can be assigned specific roles, determining their access and features available to them within the Nara system. This new feature simplifies user management, enhances security and control over project data, and also facilitates smooth onboarding for new team members.

The Nara team will be at IBC 2024 in Amsterdam from 13-16 September 2024 to hold Nara demonstrations showing these new features. nara.stream
