For Barnfind, developers of fibre-optic transport for video, audio and data, PHABRIX T&M equipment is essential for product testing, analysis and verification, and process optimisation.
Barnfind Technologies, based in Sandefjord, Norway, designs and manufactures a range of fibre-optic transport solutions for video, audio and data, including a multi-functional signal transmission platform that supports numerous signals in one frame.
Access to high-quality test and measurement equipment has always been essential to the Barnfind development teams. For electrical testing, the set-up they need includes a signal generator for SDI signals up to 12G, with an analyzer capable of reporting eye patterns, amplitude and CRC error counts. For some time Barnfind’s T&M equipment has centred on two PHABRIX Qx rasterizers, used to carry out rapid, reliable verification of its products’ optical and electrical performance.
To manage the company’s growth and new customer demands, the company has just added a third Qx unit to its inventory, purchased through Leader’s Norwegian distributor, Logical.
“Rigorous testing and quality control are basic to our production process,” said Barnfind Sales Director Arild Skjeggerud. “When selecting T&M equipment, our priority is to make sure the test results accurately reflect real-world user experience from our customers’ perspective. We follow a process of thorough research combined with discussions with clients. In this case, we ultimately chose the PHABRIX Qx.”
As well as supporting test and QC processes, the R&D department often uses the PHABRIX Qx units to measure, verify and log the data needed to optimise Barnfind’s product development processes.
A key device in Leader’s PHABRIX line-up, the Qx features a complete set of T&M tools needed to transition to the upcoming series of video formats. The instrument set includes tools for rapid fault diagnosis, compliance monitoring and product development, and is designed for HD, 3G, 6G, 12-SDI and IP ST 2110/2022-7/2022-6 environments.
“Straightforward usability of the equipment is a significant factor in our daily operations,” Arild said. “The PHABRIX Qx is convenient in that it supports the full spectrum of SDI signals, from HD-SDI to 12G-SDI. Although we aren’t currently using its IP signal measurement capabilities, this functionality will be crucial to our future requirements.”
The after-sales capabilities that Logical and Leader supply are also important in terms of continued investment. “Having confidence in the T&M equipment development is crucial,” Barnfind CTO Stian Skjelstad commented. “The after-sales service and support from both businesses have been great, with consistently prompt and professional responses.” leaderphabrix.com
