EVS Move I/O for ingest and playout, and Move UP for file-based ingest and transcoding are new tools addressing the ongoing challenge of moving production media. They serve as an efficient, flexible approach to the media ingest, playout and transcoding workflows used in professional broadcast.
Both products have been developed through the collaboration between EVS’s team in Liège and new team in Porto, Portugal, following from the company’s acquisition of MOG Technologies last year. The two tools now extend the functionality of the EVS MediaCeption media asset management system.
Move I/O – Media Acquisition and Delivery
Named for its ability to move media into and out of a work environment, Move I/O is a baseband ingest and playback tool. Adding it to MediaCeption means media can be acquired across multiple formats and resolutions while maintaining compatibility across different workflows, due to multi-format and multi-resolution support.
Its support for SDI baseband and compressed IP streams such as SRT, NDI and HLS on the same server gives it a hybrid ingest capability, combined with dynamic resource allocation. deployment is scalable – Move I/O operates as a standalone server or in a multi-server group, on-premises or in the cloud.
Multi-resolution playback is available to quickly review recordings in full resolution, organised as required with playlists.
Using dashboard widgets, users can customize how they operate the system and control multiple servers from a single web interface, and use built-in scheduling to plan ahead for ingest.
EVS VIA MAP is another part of MediaCeption media asset management.
Through close integration with Avid, it is possible to check directly into Avid MediaCentral, with standalone Media Composer support.
Move UP – Optimizing File-based Ingest and Transcoding
Move UP, in contrast, moves media up through the transcoding process, simplifying file-based ingest, transcoding and delivery workflows by removing the need to directly handle multiple formats, codecs and frame rates. Broad codec and format support is also important for this type of ingest, supporting broadcast, post-production and OTT applications.
Where needed, CPU and GPU acceleration can be used for high-resolution footage and complex formats. The software can be deployed on-premises or in the cloud. For Move UP, the dashboard customisation widgets control multiple render nodes from a single web interface, and the render farm can be scaled to make sure adequate performance is available for media processing.
Move UP is interoperable with Avid Media Composer and MediaCentral for ingest and delivery, with an edit-while-ingest feature enabling real-time access through Avid and Adobe. Workflows are allowed access to MediaCentral catalogues, including Avid sequences/master clips, to create deliverables. Users can set up metadata enrichment in various configurations, and automate workflows with watch folders and REST API integration.
Diverse Production Environments
Move I/O and Move UP cater to a wide range of production demands, including scripted and unscripted drama, corporate events, houses of worship and newsroom production. Oscar Teran, EVP Markets & Solutions at EVS noted, “Following our acquisition of MOG Technologies, we have been working to integrate and enhance these solutions to meet the evolving needs of media organisations, and continue to give users greater choice and flexibility in their production workflows and media supply chains. Move I/O and Move UP are effective, scalable ingest and transcoding applications that help teams work more efficiently.” evs.com
