Vizrt Viz One 8 is a major update to its Broadcast Media Asset Management System
Vizrt's Viz One 8 Enterprise Media Asset Management (MAM) system is now released, a significant upgrade that brings a complete overhaul of the platform’s backend architecture, shifting to a containerized system designed to improve scalability, resilience and flexibility.
The use of containerisation breaks the platform into smaller, self-contained units that each handle specific tasks. This structure allows each unit to function independently, scale as needed and be updated without impacting the others. As a result, the system should be more adaptable, reducing operational costs and improving performance during processes like content ingest, editing and distribution.
The new container-based architecture improves flexibility in deployment options. Whether operating in an on-premises, cloud or hybrid technology stack, Viz One 8 simplifies integrations across various environments, making MAM workflows more versatile and adaptable to the specific needs of different operations.
For the Netherlands Institute of Sound and Vision (NISV), this update is seen as a step toward achieving an important goal. Phillip Maher, Head of IT and Development at NISV said, “We have a goal of upgrading our existing Viz One installation to leverage newer search and hybrid cloud technologies to improve how we serve content to our partners and the public. We’re looking forward to seeing what Viz One 8 can do for us.”
A major challenge for broadcasters is the complexity of upgrading MAM systems. With Viz One 8, the rebuilt containerized backend allows for easier, more frequent upgrades, ensuring that broadcasters and content owners can stay up-to-date and competitive. This development addresses longstanding issues such as downtime, complexity and the additional costs typically associated with MAM upgrades.
Florian Schimak, IT Project Manager at ORF, said, “As a 24/7 broadcaster, upgrading our MAM system has always been one of the biggest challenges. What we look forward to most with Viz One 8 is the ability to upgrade more frequently, with greater ease and safety.”
The flexibility and scalability of Viz One 8 position it to support future developments in media technology. Whether it’s integrating advanced tools for HDR, artificial intelligence workflows or new global content standards.
James Scott, Engineering & Platform Manager at Vizrt said, “This update takes the MAM system our customers rely on for their mission-critical operations to a new level, offering significant improvements in performance, reliability, and upgradability. It also makes it easier to adopt cloud computing resources into their media asset management ecosystem.” vizrt.com/products/viz-one
