The new SynthEyes 2025 release adds AI masking for fast object isolation, customisable multiple-exports, a head mesh asset and a dedicated exporter for virtual production workflows.
Mask ML running on AI
SynthEyes 2025 updates 3D tracking and shot delivery for visual effects studios and matchmove artists. The new release takes over many of the technical aspects of visual effects tasks through new AI-driven masking, background batch processing, a customisable multiple export system, a head mesh asset and a dedicated exporter for virtual production workflows.
“The combination of the Project Selector, Project Tag Manager, Multi-Export and the Workflow Presets Manager, SynthEyes 2025 lays a robust foundation for a consistent, efficient workflow that adapts to various challenges,” said Moritz Fortmann, SynthEyes product manager at Boris FX. “Mask ML uses machine learning to quickly isolate objects, improving the accuracy of camera solves and supporting compositing, head tracking and other downstream tasks.”
3D tracking in SynthEyes
Using machine learning, Mask ML detects and tracks static or moving objects in a scene, creating precise edge-aware masks with one click. Multiple layer management features help users organise their work and address complex compositing tasks faster. Using a new batch processing tool, users can process multiple shots simultaneously by automatically running Mask ML to generate masks, tracks and solve shots in the background.
Users can now access and manage all export settings from the straightforward interface of the new Multi-Export. This centralised export hub supports various formats, including Blender, After Effects, Nuke and Assimilate 360VR Stabilisation. It is also useful for customisation, saving users’ settings as presets. Multi-Export integrates directly with SynthEyes’ dynamic tag system, and automates variations without requiring the user to reconfigure exports from scratch.
The new SynthEyes workflow presets management drives Multi-Export functionality and serves as a structured preset framework across each pipeline scenario by giving users granular control over their set-ups. Nesting, tagging and templating capabilities help standardise settings across teams and support workflows as they evolve.
Multi-Export UI
The new specialised exporter for virtual production teams working with Assimilate Scratch and Live FX simplifies plate stabilisation for multi-camera and 360 shoots in virtual production. The exporter reduces rendering overhead and production time considerably by bypassing intermediary steps, which allows real-time adjustments and greater efficiency on LED volumes.
“Tracking a driving scene in full 360 is extremely challenging. I’ve tried all the major tracking solutions, but SynthEyes is the best and quickest available,” remarked Alex Pearce, virtual production supervisor and expert Assimilate Live FX user. “Doing a full 360 track and then exporting straight to Assimilate for playback on LED walls saves at least a few hours per shot.”
SynthEyes now has a pre-built, ready-to-animate head mesh that eases and speeds up close-up head-tracking tasks. The new mesh asset allows artists side-step time-consuming custom modelling and focus sooner on creative refinements. This tool is particularly valuable when the artist needs a professional foundation for detailed facial alignments, digital makeup and beauty work, but head scans for specific actors are not available. Users can load the ready-to-use mesh assets quickly, directly from the SynthEyes library.

File organisation becomes easier with dynamic tagging through the new Project Tag Manager. It automatically generates consistent folder paths for scenes, exports and assets, making sure that every new scene follows a custom blueprint. With the Project Tag Manage, users can avoid repetitive manual entry and take advantage of a simplified setup to standardise asset storage across pipelines.
The standalone SynthEyes application is available as an annual subscription with options for monthly subscriptions, perpetual licenses, and upgrade and support plans. SynthEyes customers on active subscriptions or upgrade and support plans receive the 2025 product release free of charge. borisfx.com
