Orange Romania chose Kybio, a combined monitoring and control platform from WorldCast CONNECT to monitor the health of their backbone equipment and receive timely alerts.
Orange Romania, part of the global Orange Group, is one of the largest telecom operators in Romania, serving over 11 million customers. Since its founding in 1997 as a mobile operator, Orange Romania has grown to now deliver a range of services including mobile and fixed internet, television, smart home systems and IT and business services. The company’s mission is to make simple, innovative products available that enhance people’s lives, work, travel and interactions.
With a large, complex TV distribution network, Orange Romania was looking for a system that could help them proactively detect and resolve service outages across their infrastructure. Their main, centralised headend connects with more than 50 regional headends across the country. This infrastructure resulted in a need for a centralised monitoring system capable of helping their team manage a geographically dispersed network, with speed and efficiency.
Unified Monitoring and Control
Orange Romania chose Kybio, combined monitoring and control software from WorldCast CONNECT, for its monitoring tools, giving them a unified platform to monitor the health of their backbone equipment and receive timely alerts when issues arise. Kybio was introduced to Orange Romania through Romtek, media and broadcast solutions distributor.
Before they saw Kybio, Orange Romania had tested various monitoring systems, but none addressed their requirements – either technically or in terms of budget. Kybio stood out especially due to its robust alarm management capabilities, essential for Orange’s Appear distibution system, which relies on alarm triggers to track faults and automate failover responses. Kybio effectively filters out unnecessary alerts and issues precise fault notifications, which simplified their fault detection and response processes.
Analytics and reporting engine
Modular Infrastructure
Kybio currently monitors the core distribution chain, which is powered by Appear modular hardware chassis, used to convert TV multicast feeds via QAM modulators for GPON network distribution to end customers. In the Appear chassis, Orange Romania combines specific Appear modules – which cover switching, input for content aggregation, compression, processing, output and decoding – to achieve the desired functionality. The infrastructure spans over 50 monitoring sites and works as a reliable, accurate way to troubleshoot service interruptions.
The key factors in Orange Romania’s decision were Kybio’s usability, alarm handling and the system’s ability to automate response actions during outages. The company has opted to deploy Kybio on-premises, to maintain data control and meet performance needs.
Like the Appear system, Kybio is also modular. It has a combination of built-in modules for real-time supervision, operation support and control, with an analytics and reporting engine. The Notification module is particularly valuable for Orange Romania because they can use it for effective off-hours monitoring. It filters and sends notifications to operators by e-mail, SMS or voice message.
During business hours, Kybio’s Dashboard shows a real-time overview of the equipment’s health. With a license for 100 devices covering all protocols, Kybio’s Monitoring module means Orange has a comprehensive view of their infrastructure.
Service Monitoring Centre
Orange's Service Monitoring Centre’s TV team is made up of service assurance engineers and the Service Delivery Manager, whose work depends on Kybio for real-time alerts and quick issue identification Through its straightforward interface and efficient alerting, the team has been able to improve their response time to issues.
Access to real-time and historical readings and events
Kybio has been stable and reliable, and WorldCast CONNECT’s support team has promptly integrated new features and met specific requests. This adaptability has been instrumental in keeping Orange Romania’s operational flow efficient and stable.
Vicentiu Marin, Service Delivery Manager at Orange, strongly recommends Kybio. “Depending on one’s needs, Kybio might be the right answer for complex architectures,” he said. “You can identify the most important links in your ecosystem and, with enough options to maintain communications, accommodate any kind of application. Owing to Kybio’s robustness and the flexibility of its modules, it can be tuned to accommodate many types of equipment and vendors.” www.worldcastconnect.com
