BATON V9’s UI is simpler to navigate and operate, speeding up identification of quality issues, avoids downtime during upgrades and supports RDD59 specifications for IMF adoption.
Comcast Technology Solutions (CTS) develops software, services and networks for MVPDs, streaming providers, advertising management and other customers and applications concerned with content delivery to consumers. The company has a converged, self-healing IP network supporting voice, video and internet traffic over IP, and an AI/ML infrastructure used to scan and derive metadata for providers. To ensure the quality of their users’ content delivery, the CTS team uses Interra System's BATON automated QC system.
Comcast Technology Solutions is a longtime BATON user and has recently integrated the updates to Version 9 of BATON. This new version introduced a new engine and web framework, with expanded support for checks, formats and user features, which have contributed to greater efficiency and a better user experience for CTS’ media QC operations. The company especially appreciates the enhancements to the user interface, the upgrade process and overall performance.
“The updates to BATON Version 9 has a number of advantages for our team,” said Christopher Jones, senior engineer at Comcast Technology Solutions. “The user interface is simpler to navigate and operate, speeding up our ability to identify quality issues. Also, the upgrade process itself kept downtime to a minimum, and made transitioning to the latest version straightforward.”
BATON Version 9 automates QC processes, supporting the standards CTS must meet for quality and compliance. Key features of the latest version include framework updates, enhanced video quality checks for 4K files, support for RDD59 specifications, direct analysis of image sequence formats, and optimised MXF file verification. New diagnostic tools for system health monitoring and an improved API for integration are also included.
SMPTE RDD 59 and related DPP Guidance will serve as tools and support for more companies to adopt IMF in their workflows. RDD 59 IMF Application DPP helps automate the content supply chain, and avoid duplication when creating, storing and processing multiple versions of content. The end result is more efficient media workflows and opportunities to lower costs.
“We are pleased that Comcast Technology Solutions has realised positive results with BATON Version 9,” said Ashish Basu, EVP of global sales and business development at Interra Systems, “We are committed to continuously developing our solutions based on customer needs, and these updates reflect our focus on delivering up-to-date, efficient QC tools.”
BATON Version 9’s architecture underwent a complete stack upgrade, with migration to Python 3.x and a new Postgres DB and Django web framework, resulting in a more responsive interface, greater scalability and optimised resource management. It also achieves better performance for UHD content QC and analysis, optimized IMF analysis, support for SONY 360 RA analysis, improved cloud support, advanced video and audio quality checks, comprehensive Dolby Atmos support, and wider format support.
Interra Systems will demonstrate the latest evolution of its BATON product suite at the 2025 NAB Show, 6-9 April, in Las Vegas, where the company is also going to make two presentations at the 2025 BEIT Conference.
