Media Composer 2024.6 includes new AI-based speech-to-text tools, improves on workflow integration with Pro Tools, and expands collaboration and reviews using Avid’s Huddle service.
Avid Media Composer now has a new Transcript Tool for PhraseFind, and improves on its compatibility with Avid's audio production software Pro Tools. Avid has also expanded the availability of the recent Avid Huddle cloud service for real-time collaborative edit sessions. All of these features are part of the 2024.6 update to the Media Composer NLE.
Version 2024.6 adds new functionality to Avid PhraseFind by enhancing it with Avid Ada AI machine learning assistance. With a new Transcript Tool now found in PhraseFind, editors can jump to specific moments in a clip based on spoken phrases, and then edit these selections directly. Edits made to the transcript will be applied to the timeline.
Media Composer 2024.6 also improves integration with Pro Tools audio software by supporting sub-frame automation for volume and pan – adjusting the volume of the signal in the left and right channels to control the direction of the sound. This change makes it more compatible with Pro Tools and gives editors more creative control. Pro Tools can also now export Media Composer-compatible audio session files that preserve metadata, reducing the need for back-and-forth adjustments between users.
Furthermore, Avid Huddle, which facilitates remote collaboration and content review, is now available for all versions of Media Composer and Avid | Edit On Demand. Editors can stream the audio/video output of Media Composer directly to collaborators connected via Microsoft Teams to set up real-time reviews that allow time-stamped annotations and discussion. Time-based text comments can be imported back into Media Composer as markers to speed up content revisions.
